THE ARMADA PORTRAIT

The Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I of England is the name of any of three surviving versions of an allegorical panel painting depicting the Tudor queen surrounded by symbols of imperial majesty against a backdrop representing the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588.
The three surviving versions are:
. The version at Woburn Abbey, in Bedfordshire, England. (below)
. The version in the National Portrait Gallery, London.
. The version owned by the Tyrwhitt-Drake family.

SALVATOR MUNDI

Salvator Mundi, Latin for Saviour of the World, is a subject in iconography depicting Christ with his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand holding an orb surmounted by a cross, known as a globus cruciger, symbolizing the Earth.

Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi” (below) will go on auction on November 15 and is reportedly the last painting by the Renaissance artist in private hands. It is one of fewer than 20 paintings by Leonardo.
